Danville, NH — Charles H. Brown, 80, of Danville, N.H., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Exeter Hospital, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on June 4, 1933, in Haverhill, Mass., and was the son of the late Alexander and Effie (Brown) Brown. He was raised and educated in Haverhill, and graduated from the Haverhill Trade School.
Charlie had worked for, and eventually purchased, Hanley’s Service in Monument Square in Haverhill, and later renamed the business, Brown’s Service. He worked for many years in the Haverhill area, and retired as an auto mechanic in 1995. Recently, he had worked for International Auto Parts in Plaistow, N.H.
He loved the outdoors in the summertime. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping to repair their cars when needed. He also enjoyed making his yearly trip to Quechee Gorge, Vt.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra A. (Putis) Brown of Danville, N.H.; his sons, Charles H. Brown Jr. and his fiancée, Maria L. Silva of Seabrook, N.H., and Richard S. Brown and his fiancée, Lisa Hathaway of Derry, N.H.; his daughter, Debra Goutier and her husband, Bruce, of Newton, N.H.; his sister, Carol Sweet and her husband, Earl, of Danville; his grandchildren, Bruce Goutier Jr. of Dover, N.H., Jason Goutier of Haverhill, Joshua Brown of York, Maine, and Arielle Brown of Guyton, Ga.; his great grandson, Cole Goutier of Dover; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins, who also survive him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alexander “Sonny” Brown, Alden Brown and Henry Brown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, April 15, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, N.H. A spring burial with Army Military Honors will take place in Center Cemetery, Danville, at a later date.
