Rochester, N.H. — George J. Nichols Jr., passed away at his home with his family at his side. He was born in Haverhill on Feb. 28, 1922, son of the late George Sr. and Derilda (Lagasse) Nichols. He was the husband of many years to Marie (Bourque) Nichols.
He grew up in Amesbury and attended Sacred Heart School. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He had worked as a shoe machinist and had worked at Hudson Shoe and United Shoe.
Besides his wife, Marie, he is survived by two sons, Richard Nichols and his wife, Easter and Paul Nichols and his wife, Cheryl; one daughter, Anita Turner and her husband, Larry; his sister, Marie Easson; three grandchildren, Julie Ann Quigley and husband Tom, Eric Nichols, and Jason Nichols and his fiancee, Natasha Portes; his great-grandchild, Sophia Nichols; nephews, Gerald and Gary Easson; nieces, Marie Easson and Carol Casey and her husband, George; and his sister-in-law, Rita Cartier.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, are Saturday, April 26, from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial with military honors will be the following Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Route 110, Macy St., Amesbury.
