Rita Alaimo, 84

York, ME — Rita N. (Coppola) Alaimo, 84, died peacefully on July 12, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. A dedicated and cherished mother and grandmother, Rita crossed the horizon on her own terms and left a legacy of love — love of family and friends to whom she had an undying devotion. Her inner strength and courage was, and will continue to be an inspiration to all she left behind.

Rita graduated from Johnson High School in North Andover, Mass., in 1946, and continued her education at MacIntosh Business School in Lawrence, Mass. Rita was employed at The Internal Revenue Service in Andover and Western Electric in North Andover, which later became Lucent Technologies, from where she retired. Upon retirement, Rita and Tony moved to their home in York, where she enjoyed bold and whimsical gardens and the rocky New England coastline. She was happiest when sharing her home with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She became very active in York’s Senior Center, where she volunteered, served on the board, and enjoyed many friendships.

Rita was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Anthony Alaimo; her son, Anthony Alaimo Jr; and her grandson, Patrick Donovan Alaimo. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Balogh and her husband, Andy, of Newburyport, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Joanne Alaimo of Biddeford, Maine; and sons, Michael Alaimo and his wife, Diane Donovan Alaimo, of Methuen, Mass., John Alaimo and his wife, Donna Alaimo, of Kittery Maine, David Alaimo of Amesbury, Mass., and Stephen Alaimo and wife, Sandy Alaimo, of York Beach, Maine. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Anthony III and his wife, Nikki, Matthew, David, Allison, Caroline, Kayla, Craig, and Domenic.
