Salem, NH — Charles E. Cardwell died peacefully surrounded by his family at Catholic Medical Center on Tuesday morning July 16, 2013. Born in Caretta, W.Va., on October 20, 1931, son of Joseph and Carrie Cardwell. Charles was retired from the United States Army, having served in the Korean war and also from Raytheon company. He was a member of the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a lay leader for the church.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Post 8546 and the American Legion, Post 63. Charles was an umpire for little league baseball. A Boy Scout leader in Saudi Arabia. Charles will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Florence; and his four children, sons, Jody Cardwell of Salem, Frank Cardwell and his wife, Rachel, of Windham, Scott Cardwell and his wife, Andrea, of Salem; and daughter, Cathy Bagley, also of Salem; and his grandchildren, Andrew Cardwell, Patrick Cardwell, Sarah Cardwell, Justin Bagley, Jeffery Bagley, James Bagley and Jeremy Bagley.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, July 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Salem, N.H. Funeral services will be held immediately after at 7 p.m.
