Michael Malandrino, 95

Methuen — Michael Malandrino, 95, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after a brief illness.

He was born in Lawrence, and spent his boyhood in Pachino, Italy, and returned to Lawrence when he was 16. He was employed as a pattern cutter at Grieco Brothers Clothing, Lawrence, for over 40 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 37th Division, Company H, 148 Infantry. Mr. Malandrino saw action in the Soloman Islands in the Pacific, earning him the Purple Heart. His family was what he treasured most, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved laughter and humor. He spent most of his leisure time gardening, listening to operas and classical music, and loved keeping up with politics and current events.

He was a member of St. Lucy Church, Sons of Italy, VFW, DAV, and the Amalgamated Retirees Clothing Association. He also volunteered at the Holy Family Hospital for 20 years.

Mr. Malandrino was the widower of Esther (Corrente) Malandrino. He leaves his daughters, Constance Hanson and her husband, Charles, of Lawrence, Janice Currier and her husband, Stephen, of Methuen, Linda Larson and her husband, Michael, of Westford; grandchildren, Amy Currier, Michael Currier and his wife, and Nikki, Matthew, John and Kathryn Larson; great-grandchildren, Mason and Keaton Currier. He was predeceased by his brother, Giuseppe Malandrino.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Merrimack Valley Hospice House for their immeasurable care and compassion.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, (tomorrow), at 11:30 a.m., at St. Lucy Church, Methuen. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.

Friends may call just prior to the Mass, also on Thursday morning, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St. North Andover, Mass.
