Eva Thersa (Assad) Saba, 97

Lawrence — Eva Theresa (Assad) Saba, 97, died peacefully on Friday December 6, 2013, at Mary Immaculate Nursing Center, with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Saba was the daughter of Kalil and Freida Assad. Mrs. Saba was born and raised in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. For over 50 years, Eva owned and operated several businesses including Campus Cleaners and Gigi’s Subs, known for its famous “Flying Saucer” sandwich and kibbee and salad sandwich. She was a member of both St. Anthony Maronite Church and St. Joseph Melkite Church. She was best known to family and friends and so many strangers for her good nature, kindness and charitable heart. She was fondly known to her friends and customers as, “Ma” or "Gigi," a name taken from her dear daughter, Georgianna.

The widow of Edward Saba, and the mother of Georgianna T. Saba, who died November 1st of this year, she leaves her sons, Daniel and his wife, Cynthia Saba of Methuen, David C. and his wife, Laurie Saba of North Andover, and Everett and his wife, Patricia Boyle-Steed of Salem, N.H.; her brother, Joseph C. Assad of Methuen; sister, Elaine and her husband, Robert Medina of Derry, N.H.; her daughter-in-law, Lesley R. Kristella of Medford; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Eva was predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Adele Spinello, Mary Assad, George Assad, who was killed in action during WWII, Mellette Assad, and Raymond Assad.

Eva’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Mary Immaculate Nursing Center for their loving, compassionate care of Eva.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Wednesday, December 11, from 4 to 8 p.m., at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Family and friends are invited to gather at 9:45 a.m., on Thursday, December 12, at St. Anthony Church, 145 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, to attend a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to MI Nursing Center, 172 Lawrence St., Lawrence, MA 01841. or to United Lebanese Charitable Association, 50 Corbett Rd., Lawrence, MA 01843.
