Atkinson, NH — Albert J. Brandy, 78, of Atkinson, N.H., known to his many friends as "Red" or "Jack," and a well-known member of the local auto racing community, died June 6, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Methuen, Mass., he was the son of the late James A. and Laura (Grange) Brandy. He attended Haverhill Trade School. He served in the U.S.Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked in the military defense field as an electronics technician for Hycor Inc., Woburn, Mass.
Red was a member of the American Legion - Wilbur M. Comeau Post. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling and golfing, and received awards in many sports. His true passion in life was auto racing. He was a committed driver and car owner, who enjoyed success in the racing field from 1958 until his recent illness. An avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed restoring antique racing cars and participated in local antique car shows. He also enjoyed traveling the world.
He is survived by his proud family, Robin Serratore of Atkinson, Pamela Kamberalis and her husband, Joseph, of Danville, and Shane Brandy; grandchildren, Danielle Kamberalis, Courtney Kamberalis, Jennifer Phillips, and Michael Serratore; his great-grandchildren, Shane Brandy Jr. and Savannah Brandy; a sister, Barbara Fitzgerald, of Methuen, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Millie Brandy, of Salem; his former wife, Claire E. (Lawyer) Brandy, of Atkinson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, James Brandy.
ARRANGEMENTS: At his request, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held on Thursday, June 13, at 3 p.m., at the Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson, N.H. Memorial donations may be made to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Route 28, Methuen, MA 01844.
