Coconut Creek, FL — Thomas Augustine Cain Jr., 81, a former resident of Lawrence and a recent resident of Coconut Creek, Fla., died on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the North Broward Medical Center in Pompano Beach, Fla.
He was born on November 22, 1931, in Lawrence, Mass., to Thomas and Mary (Carroll) Cain. Educated in Lawrence local schools, he attended two years at Central Catholic High School and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. In 1949, he entered into the Army National Guard attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class during the Korean War. In 1959, he became a permanent on the Lawrence Fire Department. He is a second generation firefighter. His father, Thomas A. Sr., was a captain at the Central Fire Station in Lawrence. He also worked hand-in-hand with his father for many years, He worked up until his retirement in 1982. He loved fishing, spent every summer with his whole family at Salisbury Beach, and he was a history buff, especially anything involving the war. He loved sharing his home in Coconut Creek, Fla., with his children and grandchildren, and his family will miss him terribly. He was an active member in the American Legion in Florida and also the Concordia Club in Lawrence.
He leaves his wife, Shirley (McGrath) Cain; two children, son, Daniel T. Cain and his girlfriend, Leta Romano, of Methuen, Mass., and daughter, Colleen E. Bell and her boyfriend, Barry Tardugno, of Salem, N.H.; and grandchildren, Derek E. Bell, Ryan T. Bell and Jake Cain. He also leaves his sister, Mary (Cain) Canto of North Andover, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Monica's Church in Methuen. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, Mass.
