Exeter, NH — Stanley J. “Steve” Gorski, 97, passed away peacefully on December 19, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth. Steve was born January 21, 1915, in Exeter, the son of the late John and Josephine (Matuszak) Gorski.
A lifelong resident of Exeter, he proudly served for over four years in the jungles of New Guinea through the end of World War II. He then married his loving wife Veronica, and they happily shared 63 years until her death in 2009. They owned and operated Ronnie’s Reupholstering for more than 40 years, and they loved Polka dancing.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn Dooda (husband Joseph) of Raleigh, NC and Janice Hayes (husband James) of Hampstead; four grandsons, Stephen Dooda (wife Katrina) of Raleigh NC, Brian Dooda (wife Garnett) of Alexandria VA, Christopher Hayes (wife Rashelle) of Sturbridge MA, and Bryan Hayes (wife Happy) of Portland ME; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edward Gorski of Exeter. He was preceded in death by his brothers Alexander, Joseph, and Henry, and sisters Mary, Valerie, and Josephine.
An avid fly fisherman, Steve enjoyed many wonderful times with his family, especially at the camp he owned with his wife on White's Pond in Ossipee. He was an active communicant of St. Michael Parish in Exeter and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 32.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012, from 5-7 PM, at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, corner of Front and Lincoln streets, Exeter.
