Lewis Skeirik, DMD, 80

Georgetown — Lewis Skeirik DMD, Georgetown, died on January 1, 2013 of a longstanding illness.

He was born in Andover, in 1932 to Shicory Skeirik and Selma Nahil Skeirik, whose parents had emigrated from Lebanon. Lew was a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy, attended college at Tufts University and graduated from Tufts School of Dental Medicine. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he opened his dental practice in Georgetown, in 1958. As a general dentist in Georgetown, Lew Skeirik truly loved his work and his patients. His son, Peter joined him in the practice in 1979. Together they worked as business partners and best friends, until "Dr. Lew" retired in 2007.

Lew Skeirik was actively involved in local politics and devoted many of his after work hours to serving his community. He was first elected to be Georgetown’s Town Moderator in 1968 and served as the moderator, presiding over town meetings, for 31 years. Dedicated to Georgetown, his involvement in the town included serving as a deacon in the First Congregational Church, as a Trustee at the Georgetown Savings Bank and he was always active in town politics. In his spare time, he was an avid woodworker, a runner, a drummer and an accomplished pilot. Lew's most treasured pastime, however, was spending time with his wife and family at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of over 60 years, Patricia Drummey Skeirik; their four children, Marcia S. Braganca, Peter L. Skeirik, Cathy S. Roberts, and Lynne P. Skeirik, and their four respective spouses, Joseph Braganca, Pamela Crowe Skeirik, Brian N. Roberts and James Patnode. He leaves four grandchildren, Beth Braganca Bell, Sara Braganca, Daniel Skeirik and Calvin Skeirik; and three great-grandchildren. Lew Skeirik also leaves his two sisters, Eileen Bogosian of Rhode Island, and Marion Habib of Florida. Lew Skeirik quietly helped many people in his lifetime. His wonderful sense of humor and his kind ways will be sorely missed by countless friends and relatives.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral service will be held at Second Congregational Church, West Boxford, on January 5, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be at the Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant street, Georgetown, on January 4th from 3–7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or People Helping People, C/O St. Mary's Church, Andover St., Georgetown, MA 01833).
