Elvyn Hajjar R.N., 94

Methuen — Elvyn (Alekel) Hajjar, a long-time resident of Methuen, died Wednesday, January 9 at Holy Family Hospital after a short illness, she was 94 years old.

Born April 22, 1918, in Methuen to the late Elizabeth (Hajjar) and Samuel David Alekel, Elvyn graduated from The Edward F. Searles High School in 1936 and later received her nursing degree in1939 from the Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing.

She went on to work as a night supervisor in the emergency room, was the head nurse for shock therapy and also created the outpatient clinic for the Lawrence General Hospital where she worked until her retirement in 1982.

She thoroughly enjoyed summers at Salisbury Beach with her family and winters in Del Rey Florida. She enjoyed cooking her specialty Lebanese dishes for her family and friends. Elvyn loved to cross stitch tablecloths for all her family, loved her ceramics classes for many years, and enjoyed knitting and reading.

She was the loving wife of the late Edward Hajjar. Elvyn is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth (Bette Ann) Caron of Methuen (wife of the late Paul J Caron); son, Stephen Hajjar and wife, Colleen of Methuen; two grandchildren, Kendra Petrone and her husband, Steven of Bradford, Peter Hajjar of Methuen; great-granddaughter, Emma; sister, Eleanor Haddad; sister-in-law, Rosalind Hajjar; brother-in-law, John Budron; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her brother, Edward Alekel and her sister ,Claire Beshara.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Sunday, January 13, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m. at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. also at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home. Burial will follow at The United Lebanese Cemetery in Andover.
