SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA — Neil J. Moody, 86, formerly of Groveland, passed away at his granddaughter’s home in Manheim Township, PA on January 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Moody was the husband of Ruth S. (Parker) Moody.
Born in Plaistow, NH on April 29, 1926, Neil was the son of the late Elliott F. and Helen E. (Staples) Moody.
Neil graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1944 and then joined the U.S. Navy. He served during the war as a Fire Control man 3rd Class in the Pacific Theater, and during the occupation of Japan. Following his discharge he enrolled in New England College and graduated in 1950. Neil worked as an insurance investigator managing the office of Retail Credit in Haverhill for eleven years. In 1961 he became a partner, and president, of Davis, Davis & Moody Insurance Agency, Inc. serving greater Haverhill residents for thirty years until his retirement in 1991. He was very civic minded and freely gave of his time and energy. Neil was a member of the Groveland Congregational Church where he served for many years as Moderator, member of the Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Stewardship Committee. He was Chairman of the Town of Groveland Finance Board for most of his 20 years of service, a member of the Haverhill Exchange Club serving as president from 1973-1974, member of Charles C. Dame Masonic Lodge, was a Lieutenant in the Groveland Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Board of Fire Engineers and was Chairman of the Republican Committee Finance Campaign.
He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed reading, home remodeling and making furniture.
Besides his wife of 63 years, Neil is survived by his children, Priscilla J. Moody-Eastman and her husband Kenneth of Campton, NH, Julianne P. Patterson and her husband David of Port St. Lucie, FL, N. Dana Moody and his wife Lisa of Groveland; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service, with military honors, on Saturday, 12:00 noon, at Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on April 6, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Groveland Congregational Church.
