Haverhill — Virginia S. (Brisson) Lucey, 93, formerly of the Bradford section of Haverhill, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Hannah Duston Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late, Horace L. and Helen (Mitchell) Brisson. Educated in Haverhill, she attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1937. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Hearts Parish.
Mrs. Lucey was employed as Cafeteria Staff in the Haverhill Public School System for over twenty-one years. She spent most of her career at the Dr. Paul Nettle Middle School and also worked at the Consentino Middle School.
A woman of many talents, she knitted and enjoyed crafts, and looked forward to her weekly Thursday meetings with her fellow “Crafty ladies”. She also spent time tending to her garden and was a member of the Haverhill Garden Club. Friends and family gatherings were always special as she was a tremendous cook and exceptional baker. For relaxation she read many books, and always had her cats to keep her company.
The widow of John G. Lucey who died in 1980, she leaves her son, Roger A. Lucey and his wife, Rita P. (Piazza), of Atkinson, NH; her daughter, Elizabeth L. Torosian, of Haverhill; six cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Knight and her husband, Calvin, of Pelham, NH, Peter Lucey, of Cambridge, David Lucey and his wife, Michelle, of San Diego, Ellyn Sayers and her husband, Scott, Stephen Torosian, and Patrick Torosian, all of Haverhill, great grandchildren; Jacob and Brooke Knight, Emma and Madelyn Lucey, Alyson Burns, Justin Torosian, and Sophia Sayers.
The family of Mrs. Lucey would like to extend their gratitude for the care she received from Hannah Duston Staff and the Fidelis Hospice.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 12:00 noon in Sacred Heart’s Church, South Main St. Bradford. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill St. Haverhill. A period of visitation will be held before Mass from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the Kevin B.
