Haverhill, MA — Barbara H. (Gynan) Prophet passed suddenly and unexpectedly from heart failure on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill. She was born in Andover on November 15, 1925, to William R. and Beulah B. (Hayden) Gynan. Barbara was a Haverhill resident most of her life, and a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1943.
On August 5, 1961, she was married to Mr. Harry Prophet. They shared many happy years before his death in 1990. Together they were City of Haverhill Tennis Champions in singles and doubles, and in the winters, enjoyed skiing in New Hampshire, Vermont and Vail, Colo.
Barbara retired after 32 years from the former Western Electric in North Andover, having started with the company in its early years in Haverhill. She was a lifetime member of the Riverside Memorial Church in Haverhill.
Barbara leaves behind her sister, Roberta D. (Gynan) Takesian and husband, Harry, of Groveland; her nieces and nephews, whom she thought of like her own children, Harry W. Takesian, David G. Takesian, Lynne (Takesian) Conklin, Ann (Takesian) Moriarty, Roberta (Gynan) Baker, Susan (Gynan) McCormick, and William R. Gynan III. Auntie Barbara will also be fondly remembered by several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and brother, William R. Gynan Jr.
The family wishes to extend its appreciation to the staff of Haverhill Crossings Assisted Living Facility for their care and support in making the past six months happy ones for Barbara.
ARRANGEMENTS: A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, from 9 to 10 a.m., at Paul C Rogers Family-Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill, immediately followed by services at 10 a.m., and interment in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverside Memorial Church Music Fund, 278 Groveland St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
