METHUEN — Rosario "Ray" Fichera, 73, of Methuen, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, June 30, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Acireale, Sicily on Sept. 19, 1936 and was the son of the late Salvatore and Angela (Lizzio) Fichera.
Ray was educated in Italy where he earned his teaching degree and also served as a corporal in the Italian Military. He immigrated to the United States from Italy in 1960. Ray attended Boston University and graduated from the National Institute of Dry Cleaning in Silver Spring, Md. in 1964. He opened his own business, Superior Cleaners and Tailors in 1985. He took great pride in his work and his goal was to always satisfy his customers.
Ray enjoyed cooking and always said it was the presentation of the dinner that counts. He also took great pleasure in taking rides along the scenic coastline and going on cruises. He loved telling stories of his life experiences to his children and grandchildren. He occasionally enjoyed a trip to the casinos.
He was a member of the Holy Family Men's Guild, Sons of Italy, the I.A.C.A. and the Pontiac Club. He was also a parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Noreen (Zappala) Fichera; his son, Russell Fichera and his wife Suzanne of Methuen; his daughter, Jeannine Peluso and her husband Robert of Methuen; his five cherished grandchildren, Christina and Justin Fichera and Joshua, Jacob and Gianna Peluso; his sister-in-law, Constance (Zappala) McKiernan and her husband James of West Roxbury; and his two nieces, Angela Sawyer and her husband Remi of Florida and Jennifer McKiernan of West Roxbury. He was predeceased by his sister, Agata Catanzaro Levesque and his niece, Mariella Giuffrida.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Friday, July 2, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Essex Street, Lawrence.
