Lawrence, MA — Antonio L. Jara, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Antonio was born and educated in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the son of the late Maximilo Jara and Ofelia (Iglesias) Jara. He came to Lawrence in the 1960s and retired from Malden Mills in 2005. Antonio was a naturist, who enjoyed gardening and played word search games. He was well read and watched the History and Discovery Channels.
Antonio is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy (Travers) Jara of Lawrence; sons, Oscar Jara of North Carolina and Michael Jara of Lawrence; daughters, Carmen Jara of Guayaquil, Ecuador and Nancy Maritza Jara of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In addition, he is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Juan Jara and sisters, Celeste Lavayen, Rosita Igelsia, Mechita Jara and Columbita Jara. He is also survived by a close friend, Isabel Melendez.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 9 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Lawrence. Friends may call Friday, February 14, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Farrah Funeral Home, 133 Lawrence St., Lawrence, MA.
