Howard J. Cashman Jr., 95

Haverhill — Howard J. Cashman Jr., 95, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, February 11, at the Penacook Place Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Howard J. Sr. and Alice M. (Bouchard) Cashman. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1936. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Cashman proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1941 until being honorably discharged in 1945.

He lived in Hampton, N.H., and Windham, Maine, for 27 years, and retired to Florida in 1982, before returning to Haverhill.

Mr. Cashman was employed at Suburban Propane, first as delivery, and later, as manager for 27 years, retiring in 1982.

Howard never watched TV, but was an avid reader of history, nature magazines and mystery novels. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He looked forward to his frequent visits from his sister. Howard always had a charming smile on his face for everyone he met.

He was predeceased by Dorothy, his wife of 59 years. He leaves two sons, William H. Cashman and his life partner, Susan L. Weiss of Dover, N.H., and John H. Cashman of Brooks, Maine; a daughter, Jane A. Lufkin and her husband, Raymond, of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren, William H. Cashman Jr., Elizabeth, Sara, Thomas, and John Cashman Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Isabella, Miles, and Hazel Cashman; two sisters, Margaret A. Perri, of Atkinson, N.H., and Mary A. Custeau, of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are invited to a memorial service for Mr. Cashman on Friday, February 21, at 11 a.m., in the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Route 125, Haverhill. An hour of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the services at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at the Linwood Cemetery, Mill St., Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penacook Place, 150 Water St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
