Newbury — Robert M. Abbott, 62, died suddenly at home on July 14 with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Haverhill on January 23, 1951, and spent the rest of his life on his beloved Plum Island. He was the son of the late Robert and Louise (Barrett) Abbott. Bob graduated from Newburyport High School in 1970. He owned and operated Abbott Construction. Besides his family, his great love was Plum Island life. From surfing, to fishing, to boating, he was happiest by the water. He enjoyed spending his recent retirement gardening, fishing, and cherishing time with his beloved granddaughter, Kailey.
In addition to Karen (Shea), his wife of 34 years, he is survived by his daughters, Bethany Abbott-Bishop and her husband, Robert, of Newbury, Mass., and Emily of Newbury, Mass.; his granddaughter, Kailey Abbott-Bishop; sister, June Henderson and her husband, Jim, of Newburyport, Mass.; brother, David and his wife, Karen, of Groveland, Mass.; brother, Bruce and his wife, Sharon, of Newmarket, N.H.; and sister, Sally Taverna and her husband, Robert, of Centerville, Mass. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Atherton of Newbury, Mass. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are invited to join us in a celebration of his life on Saturday, July 20, at the Newbury Fire Hall, 3 Morgan Ave., Newbury, Mass., from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be no calling hours.
