North Andover — Doctor Oreste D. “Russ” Zanni, 66, of North Andover, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Boston University Medical Center in Boston. He was born in Lawrence and was the son of the late Oreste and Latina (Iannalfo) Zanni. Doctor Zanni was predeceased by his beloved wife of 38 years, Paula (Licciardi) Zanni and his brother, Stephen Zanni.
Doctor Zanni was raised and educated in Lawrence. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry and the Goldman Boston University Graduate School of Dentistry. He taught at Boston University and was a Clinical Associate Professor, and Clinical Director of Advanced Specialty Education Program in Periodontics. He also had a private practice in Methuen, specializing in periodontics.
Doctor Zanni received numerous education awards throughout his career. He was awarded the Educators Award from Boston University in 2008, 2009 and 2013, the Faculty Teaching Award from the Goldman School of Dental Medicine and the Excellence in Teaching award from his graduate students, class of 2009. He was respected by his colleagues and idolized by his students.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Michael Licciardi and his wife, Linda, of Londonderry, N.H.; his cousins, Ann Loiacono and her husband, Vincent, of Lawrence, and Mayor Stephen Zanni of Methuen; his cherished companion, Rosalyn Seipel of Wellesley; his dear dental assistant, Lisa Santos of Lowell and hygienists, Lori Murphy of North Andover and Elizabeth Bibeau of Methuen; his dear close friends, Attorneys Anthony and Kathleen DiFruscia of Windham, N.H.; and close friend and colleague, Serge Dibart of Watertown, Mass. He is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, July 19, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence. Interment will be in St. Mary’s – Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
