JoAnna M. Purnell, 71

North Reading — JoAnna M. (Parsons) Purnell, 71, of North Reading, died at her home, surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 18, 2013. She was the loving wife of the late Henry J. “Hank” Purnell, a Retired North Reading Police Chief, who died in 2011.

Born in North Reading, Mass., on January 21,1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary M. (Goode) Parsons. JoAnna was a lifelong resident of North Reading and a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1960.

She worked for Brooks Pharmacy in North Reading, as a store manager for over fifteen years. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Church, 4th of July Committee and the North Reading Historical & Antiquarian Society, where she served as Treasurer.

JoAnna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She lived for her grandchildren. She was actively involved in the Town of North Reading and loved being a part of this community. She was compassionate and selfless. She did for others and never asked for a return or complained. She was a true believer in live, love and laugh. Joanna enjoyed Bingo, shopping and Foxwoods.

Family members include her loving sons, Reginald Goulet and his wife, JoAnn, of East Hampstead, N.H., and Henry J. Purnell, Jr. of Port, Richey, Fla.; daughters, Tammey Zwicker and her husband, Jeffrey, of Derry, N.H., Tina Tryder and her husband, Michael, of Tewksbury, Tracey Purnell and her wife, Kerry Purnell, of North Reading, Debbie Purnell of New Port Richey, Fla.; her brother, John Parsons and his wife, Elaine Parsons, of Methuen; sisters, Marion Fraughton of Seabrook, N.H., and the late Susan Furbush; grandchildren, Tara, David, Sarah and Derek Goulet, Tura Purnell, Corena and Danielle Zwicker, Lucas, Emily and Olivia Tryder; great-grandchildren, Isabella Federico, Haley Compiano, and Mason Purnell. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and brother and sister-in-laws.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Tuesday, July 23, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St., (Route 62), North Reading. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
