Andover and formerly of Haverhill — Ruth V. (Wicks) Hoffman, 91, of Andover, and formerly of Haverhill, died Saturday evening, May 31, at The Falls at Cordingly Dam, Newton, Mass.
She was born in Haverhill on November 21, 1922, and was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Foss) Wicks Sr.
Educated in the Haverhill School System, Mrs. Hoffman graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1941. She went on to Fay Secretarial School in Boston for two years, and worked as a legal secretary for Attorney George Karelitz, Haverhill.
For over 51 years, she resided in Andover. While there, she was a member of the Andover Garden Club, Andover Historical Society, the November Club, the Book Club, and volunteered for the Home for Little Wanderers.
She was the wife of the late Saul J. “Joe” Hoffman, who died in 2002. Her survivors include a daughter, Jane W. Hoffman and her fiancé, Dennis Trask of Andover; two sons, David S. and his wife, Kathy Hoffman of Wellesley, and W. Drew and his wife, Kate Hoffman of Marblehead; a brother, Arthur and his wife, Patricia Wicks of Haverhill; seven grandchildren, Alex, Sydney, Cameron, Caroline, Emma, Meg, and John Joseph; as well as several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Thursday, June 5, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, immediately followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
