Lancaster, MA — Gail J. (Lambert) Edwards, 68, of 267 Nicholas Drive, passed away peacefully at home, in her sleep, on Monday, June 2, 2014, after a valiant, 15-year battle with breast cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Francis X. Edwards; her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Edwards of Bridgeport, Conn.; brother-in-law, Peter Edwards and his wife, Kathy, of Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada; two nieces, Katie and Meghan Edwards; and many cousins.
Born in Lawrence on September 12, 1945, she was the daughter of George E. and Jeannette L. (Lemay) Lambert. Gail was raised in Lawrence and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. Gail earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, magna cum laude, from Merrimac College, and later, a doctorate degree in chemistry from the University of New Hampshire, where she was the recipient of a National Defense Education Act Fellowship.
Gail worked in the dye and pharmaceutical industries as a research chemist and patent liaison for a number of years, before beginning a new teaching career. She taught chemistry at the College of the Holy Cross, and Worcester State University, until her retirement in 2010.
She enjoyed spending time with her husband and researching genealogy. Following retirement, she earned a certificate in genealogical research at Boston University.
She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American-French Genealogical Society, the American-Canadian Genealogical Society, and the Aldrich Astronomical Society.
Gail's family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the medical staff at UMass Memorial Medical Center, the Health Alliance VNA & Hospice, and the staff and clients at the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden in Harvard.
ARRANGEMENTS: Gail's funeral will be held on Thursday, June 5, from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 809 Main St., Lancaster.
