Janet (Lyman) Porter, 79

Atkinson, NH — Janet L. (Lyman) Porter, 79, passed away peacefully June 3, at Holy Family Hospital, with her loving family at her bedside. She was born on March 30, 1935, the daughter of the late Albert and Vesta (Shackford) Lyman of Silver Lake, N.H. She graduated from Kennett High School and the University of New Hampshire. Janet worked in Boston at the Arlington Trust Co. and then BJ’s Wholesale Club in Salem, N.H. and Boynton Beach, Fla.

While living in Florida, she spent many hours volunteering for Special Teams Miami. She attended the East Hampstead Union Christian Church in East Hampstead, N.H. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed tailgating. She also traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad. However, her greatest joy was her family and being instrumental in helping Glenn to win his battle against Cystic Fibrosis for 38 years. She was predeceased by her son, Glenn Lyman and her brother, George Lyman. Janet is survived by her husband of 52 years, Sheldon of Atkinson, N.H.; daughters, Jo-Anne Porter of East Hampstead and Nancy Thompson and her husband, Gary of Salem, N.H.; granddaughter, Savannah Starr, also of Salem, N.H.; her sister, Norma Jane Lyman of Concord, N.H.; her sister-in-law, Barbara Lyman of Derry, N.H.; her niece, Dawn Kinson of Dover, N.H.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial visitation will be Sunday, June 8, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, N.H. The funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Gilman Cemetery in Madison, N.H.
