Andover — Mary Joanne (McGlaflin) Devney, of Andover, Mass., died on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, following an extended illness.
Born on April 11, 1933, in Northfield, Vt., Ms. Devney graduated from Northfield High School and the University of Vermont. She went on to teach in Madrid, Spain, and Goose Bay, Labrador, Newfoundland, before settling in Andover, where she taught home economics at both Andover West Jr. High and Andover High School, before retiring in 1996. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, traveling with friends and family, and reading mystery novels.
Ms. Devney was married to Paul Devney in 1964, until Mr. Devney’s death in 1991. She is survived by her sons, Andrew, of Andover, and Peter, of Haverhill, Mass.; her brother, Michael McGlaflin and his wife, Wilda, of Chantilly, Va.; her sister-in-law, Ann Patterson of Marlborough, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, June 27, at 1 p.m., at The Charles Dewhirst Andover Funeral Home, 33 Pearson Street, Andover.
