Dover, NH — Raymond S. Santos, 79, of Dover, formerly of Haverhill, died on Saturday, June 29, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover after many years of living with Parkinson’s disease.
Born in Lowell on September 2, 1933, he was the son of the late, Jesse M. and Palmira (Menezes) Santos. He attended school in Lowell and was a graduate of Keith Academy High School, Class of 1950. A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1956. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Army, he continued his education at Northeastern University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1960.
Mr. Santos was employed by the Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. for over 30 years, working his way up the corporate ladder, and retiring in 1991 as director of training and underwriting.
A faithful gentleman, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ray enjoyed time spent with his family. He loved the ocean and day trips to the beach. His hobbies included walking, reading, especially books on history, and loved working with photography.
He leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy A. (Langan) Santos, of Dover; his son, William R. and his wife, Aline (Davis), of Haverhill; his three daughters, Cheryl A. Welsh and her husband David, of Andover, Joanne M. Santos, of Dover, and Mary L. Burke and her husband, Shawn of Danville, N.H.; seven cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Jessica Santos, and Corinne, Emily, and Kyle Welsh, and Jared and Kiara Burke; great-grandson, Dominic Santos; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Richard Santos, Virginia Santos and Evelyn Souza.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Saturday July 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Route 125, Haverhill. A memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m., in St. John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. Burial is private.
