ANDOVER — Alfreda Cecilia Farrar, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
Her independent spirit carried her over the years after the death of her husband of 48 years, Preston Stover Farrar, on April 11, 1990.
Born in Brunswick, Maine, on June 5, 1919, she was daughter to Alan Godfrey McGuire and Anastacia Cunningham. She had resided in South Lawrence and Andover for the past 50 years.
She enjoyed yearly trips to Maine to visit her sisters and brother, and was especially fond of her many grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. She took pleasure in the holiday season with her family, and in going to the beach and having a fish sandwich.
The Farrar family would like to thank Dr. Mai T. Nguyen, M.D. of Methuen for the wonderful care he showed their mother over the years.
Family members include four daughters, Patricia Pease, Sharon Bernard and her husband, Roger, Judith Morse, and Pamela Freeman and her husband, Lee; one son, Peter Farrar; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Anabelle Ouelette, Edith McCafferty, Charlotte Jones, and Helen McGuire; and brother, Alan McGuire Jr.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be from The Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway, opposite St. Patrick Church, South Lawrence.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m., in the funeral home’s South Chapel. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Final acts of farewell and laying to rest will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover.
