Salisbury — Robert F. Gagnon, 83, of Salisbury, formerly of South Lawrence, died on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in his home at Salisbury Beach, after a long illness.
He was born in Salem, Mass., and was the only child of the late Rene and Catherine (Spanks) Gagnon.
Bob was raised in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High, Class of 1948. He and the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Mary Jean (Tardie) Gagnon, were married in 1950, and settled in South Lawrence to raise their family. Bob worked as a custodian for the Lawrence School System for over 20 years, before his retirement in the early 1990s. He founded the Lawrence Youth Hockey League in the 1960s, and managed the league for over 10 years. Bob and Mary Jean loved the beach and moved to Salisbury Beach in the 1980s. Above all else, Bob loved his family, they were his life, and he will be sadly missed.
In addition to Mary Jean, his wife of over 60 years, Bob is survived by his son, John Gagnon; his daughter, Mary Beth Traynor and her husband, Michael, of Pelham, N.H.; his five grandchildren, Amy Spence and her husband, Jeff, Tim Traynor Sr. and his wife, Charlene, Stephen Traynor and his wife, Julie, and Katelyn Gagnon and Jennifer Gagnon; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sons, Joseph and James Gagnon; and his daughter, Katherine Gagnon.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, from 12 to 3 p.m., at Relief‘s Inn, 1 Market St., Lawrence, Mass, www.reliefsin.com.
