Lawrence, MA — Victor Ortega, 91, passed away on February 4, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Victor was born in Tenares, Dominican Republic, the son of the late Soto Ortega and his wife, Bruna (Gabin) Ortega. While living there, Victor was the proprietor of a farm. He brought his family to Lawrence in 1970 and worked at JoGal Shoe, New Balance, StrideRite Shoe and retired as an aluminum machinist in Lawrence. After retirement, he worked part-time at Cedar Crest and the Red Tavern restaurants.
Victor was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Lawrence. He loved preparing meals for his extended family and enjoyed music.
The widower of Ovdulia (Gonzalez) Ortega who died in 1997, he is survived is by his children, Felicia Ortega, Gumercindo Ortega, Obispo Ortega, Domingo Ortega
Bartola Ortega, Ana V. Ortega, Ricardo Ortega, Eduvigis Ortega, Obispio Ortega, Carmen Ortega, Maribel Ortega, Juan Ortega, Ana Ortega, Danilo Ortega, Marcelina Ortega and Julian Ortega. In additon, he is survived by 57 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Lemenica Portorreal.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be offered Friday, February 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Lawrence. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Lawrence.
