GROVELAND — Barbara A. (Meder) Meyer, 93 years young, died on Thursday, February 20, 2014, in the Halcyon House in Methuen, with her loving family by her side, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Berthold “Bert” C. Meyer, with whom, after five years, she is now reunited with in heaven.
Born on October 30, 1920, in Plainfield, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Josephine Meder. She was a graduate of Plainfield High School and also attended Berkeley School of Secretarial Training in New Jersey. Barbara proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 during World War II, until she was honorably discharged in 1946.
Barbara worked as a secretary for various legal and public relations firms, and also worked for the renowned Brown Brothers Harriman in New York City for several years. In her spare time, she could be found knitting, crocheting, sewing, and cooking homemade after-school treats for her children. Her all-time favorite delicacy to eat was lobster, which she continued to enjoy up until the last few months.
Her devotion as a wife, mother and grandmother was immeasurable. Her family considered her to be their best friend as well. Barbara’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Halcyon House for the outstanding care their mother received during her stay with them.
