Pinehurst, NC — Robert A. Ratcliffe, 89, of Pinehurst, N.C., and formerly of Methuen, Mass., died peacefully at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, on Friday, February 14, 2014.
Born in Hayes, Pa., on February 25, 1924, Bob was the son of the late John and Vera (Benfield) Ratcliffe, and grew up in Methuen, Mass. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Jack and Fred Ratcliffe; and sisters, Alice Pricer, Dorothy Smith and Joan Savard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Eudora Anne Ratcliffe; his four daughters, Janet Ratcliffe of Methuen, Mass., Nancy Blase and Alice Perron (Kenneth) of Worcester, Mass., and Carolyn Vargas of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; two brothers, Dr. Edward Ratcliffe (Evelyn) of Methuen, and Richard Ratcliffe (Gail) of Pelham, N.H.; two sisters, Vera Harrison of Garner, N.C., and Jean Robillard of Pelham; his grandchildren, Robert Pauley, Jessica Leaver, Kristin Guildford, Jennie Lynn and Kenneth Perron, Whitney Stockwell, and Robert, Tina and Rey Ruiz; five great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Edward F. Searles High School, served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and retired in 1989 from AT&T in North Andover, Mass.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 2 p.m., on March 1, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Methuen, Mass. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service, and a reception will immediately follow.
