Shirley H. Bryant


Haverhill — Shirley (Hood) Bryant, 94, formerly of Hampstead, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2014, at Penacook Place.

Born in Spencer, MAass., on January 31, 1920, Shirley was the daughter of the late William T. and Mary (Spooner) Hood.

Educated in Haverhill, she graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1939. During the war, Shirley worked at Western Electric. When her family was older, she worked for more than 15 years as a cafeteria worker for the Haverhill School System at the Consentino School.

Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Haverhill for more than 60 years, where she served as member of the Diaconate, Sunday school teacher, and many of the ladies groups within the church. She was also a member of Haverhill Women’s City Club. She enjoyed her retirement years at Big Island Pond in Hampstead with family and friends, excelled at fine needlework, and enjoyed playing numerous card games.

Shirley is survived by her children, Donald P. Bryant and wife, Debra, of Hampstead, Lauryl L. Giroux and husband, Norman, of Manchester, N.H., Janice Bryant and husband, Harry Taylor of Haverhill, and Emily Archambault of Haverhill; sister, Greta Davis of Groveland; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Henry M. “Chub” Bryant; and daughter, Beverly Abbott Gleesettle.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral on Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m., at Riverside Church. Visitation will precede the funeral, from 9 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Walnut Cemetery.
