Petersham, MA — Jeremiah William Connolly III, 84, died peacefully at Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner, Mass., on Saturday July 27, 2013, after a long battle with pneumonia.
Born on November 24, 1928, in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of the late Jeremiah William Connolly Jr. and Sadie Kennedy Connolly, and sisters, Christine Coughlin, Evelyn Trachia and the late Lorraine Blasi.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Mooers Connolly, who passed away in 1996, and his daughter, Sharon Joan Connolly, who died as an infant in 1950.
He leaves behind his son, Allan Connolly and his wife, May Connolly of Petersham, Mass.; his son, Jeremiah William Connolly IV “Jay” and his wife, Laurie Connolly of Sandown, N.H.; and his daughter, Lisa Connolly Naimo and her husband, Charles Naimo of Lunenburg, Mass.
He leaves behind eight grandchildren, Rebecca Connolly Legare, Bryan Connolly, Jolynn Connolly, Robert Connolly, Jeremiah Connolly V, Shelby Naimo, Harrison Naimo, and Keira Naimo; and 10 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ally, William, Cordelia, Patrick, Joshua, Aiden, Kira, Samantha, and Violet.
Jeremiah was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. After leaving the Navy, he worked for the railroad, and in 1954, began working for the Department of Public Works in Haverhill, as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 2006, after 52 years.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the men’s bowling league at the West Congregational Church in Haverhill. He enjoyed time with family, trips to Hampton Beach, and especially Dunkin’ Donuts for his favorite cup of coffee.
ARRANGEMENTS: Pastors Deborah Arnold and Russell Arnold, who have held Jeremiah in their spiritual care, will officiate a private family service at the Greenwood Cemetery in Haverhill.
