Salem, NH — John A. “Big John” Wilkalis, 63, of Salem, N.H., died Thursday, June 6, at his home in Salem. He was born in Boston, grew up and was educated in Cambridge, Mass., and Salem, where he graduated from Salem High School. He was a resident of Salem for the past 53 years. John was a former heavy equipment operator for several area businesses. He was a member of the Derry-Salem Elks Lodge. He was an avid NHRA Drag racing fan and was a former driver. He enjoyed NASCAR, boating, playing pool, car shows, and loved cats.
John is survived by his parents, John and Adela (Wistejunas) Wilkalis of Salem; daughter, Kristy Wilkalis of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; son, Jeff Wilkalis of Colo.; sister, Adele Boeske of Derry, N.H.; two grandchildren, Katie and Paul; nephew, Steven and his wife, Jodi Boeske of Chester, N.H.; great-nephews, Zachary and Nathan Boeske; and longtime friend, Pauline Duggan of Somerville, Mass.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m.,at Derry-Salem Elks, 39 Shadow Lake Rd., Salem. Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, has care of the arrangements.
