North Reading — Mary Gertrude (McLean) McFarland, 90, of North Reading, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was the loving wife of the late John E. McFarland.
Born in Winthrop, Mass., on July 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Emma (Terry) McLean.
Mary has been a resident of North Reading for the past 66 years. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Church and a founding member of the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation (North Reading Dollars for Scholars).
Family members include her loving daughters, Susan O’Leary and her husband, Thomas, of Andover; Sandra Skulley and her late husband, William, of Wakefield; Mary Russell and her husband, Douglas, of Plymouth; and Janet MacKean and her husband, Stephen, of West Newbury; sons, the late John D. McFarland and his wife, Susan, of Nantucket; George McFarland and his wife, Charlene, of Townsend; and Robert McFarland and his wife, Catherine, of Rye, N.Y. Loving sister of Col. Charles McLean, U.S. Army (Ret.) of New Mexico, the late Arthur McLean of Panama City, Panama, the late Hubert McLean of Arlington, and the late John McLean of West Roxbury; and her twin sister the late Eleanor O’Brien of Andover. She is also survived by her 23 grandchildren, Meagan, Kelly, Ryan, Joshua, Patrick, Courtney, Brendan, Jonathan, Caitlin, Jaime, Christopher, Rory, David, Molly, Sean, Bridget, Andrew, Jeffery, Conor, Meredith, Emma, Fiona, and John; and her 26 great-grandchildren, Ella, Kiyo, Kendall, Samuel, Luke, Miller, Emery, Garan, Ayla, Dylan, Teagan, Callan, Finley, Flynn, Leila, Olivia, Quin, Abigail, Dylan, Riley, Dashiel, Grace, Yana, Cael, Donovan, and Liv.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Monday, June 24, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St., (Route 62), North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
