ANDOVER - Rudolph Muto spend a lifetime in the service of others. As a father, husband, and physician he was an integral member of our community and family. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and grandchildren on Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, 2008.

Dr. Muto was born in Avellino, Italy in 1927. He attended the Lyceum at Orvieto, the University of Naples and graduated from the University of Bologna School of Medicine. He came to Boston and completed a residency in general surgery at the Mt. Auburn Hospital and specialty training in Thoracic Surgery at the Overholt Clinic. He married Phyllis Tirone and settled in the Merrimack Valley where he went into private practice.Read this article in full with a

Betsy A. Gaudet, 71

Betsy A. (Nichols) Paige Gaudet, 71, of North Andover died peacefully Saturday at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a long battle with cancer.

Betsy was born in Lynn on November 23,1940 to the late Robert and Jean (Colpitts) Nichols. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School. Betsy was employed as a Home Health Aid, most recently working with hospice patients. She was an avid gardener and animal lover and loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots. Betsy was a loving and devoted wife and mother.

James R. "Jim" Demars,

James R. Demars, 64, died peacefully, Friday, February 10, 2012 in Beverly following a brief illness.

Born in Lawrence on June 14, 1947, he was the son of the late William and Germaine (Ouellette) Demars. He was a graduate of the Methuen public schools and had resided in Lawrence for many years before moving to Ormond Beach, Florida in 1994. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 8, 1968 and served in Germany and Czechoslovakia before being honorably discharged on December 8, 1969.

Mildred A. "Millie" (Hadley) Nanartonis, 77, of Lawrence, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 11, 2012, with her family.

The daughter of the late Roger and Ruth (Hodge) Hadley, Millie was born in Methuen on March 1, 1934. She was educated in Lawrence schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1951. While in high school, she was a drum majorette. She was a homemaker.

Ralph C. Simonds III, 69

Ralph C. “Buddy” Simonds III, died Friday, February, 10, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill after years of coping with lung disease. Born in Haverhill, he was raised in Groveland, the son of the late, Ralph C. Simonds Jr, and Agnes M. (Kennedy). He attended public school and was a Graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1960. Buddy began his career as a machinist with United Shoe Machinery in Beverly. He joined the Groveland Fire Department as a volunteer and later became full time with the Haverhill Fire Department on July 4, 1971. He would spend the next twenty-four years, serving the citizens of Haverhill, retiring as Lieutenant in 1995. As most fireman, Buddy had a second career as a paint and wallpaper contractor. Active in the A.A. program, he was proud to be a friend of Bill W. for thirty-one years. For recreation Buddy enjoyed golfing, he had a great sense of humor, and loved spending time with his family. He leaves his beloved wife, Kathleen M. (Bryant) Simonds, of Atkinson, NH, two sons, Brian M. Simonds, of Groveland, and Shawn P. Simonds, of Haverhill, two daughters, Lynn Quintiliani, of Haverhill, and Kim Johnston, of Haverhill, three step daughters, Stacey L. Henry and her husband, David, of Methuen, Bridgette M. Stewart, of Plaistow, and Lisa M. Stewart, of Derry, 14 grandchildren, Keith Ciaburri, Cole, Brooke, and Austin Simonds, Adriana and Anthony Quintiliani, Courtney Johnston, Gavin and Luke Henry, Alexis, Hunter, Sabrina, Christian, and Izayah Stewart, two brothers Michael E. and his wife, Kathryn (Brent) Simonds, of Haverhill, Peter Simonds, and his wife Debbie, of Sandown, four sisters, Bette A. Gorski, of Groveland, Michelle Pankauski, of Salisbury, Patricia J., and Colleen A. Simonds, both of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Edward Robert “Bobby” Simonds, and brothers in law, Barry Gorski, and Bruce Pankauski, and sister in law, Jean (Brindle) Simonds.

Richard Walter Hamel died suddenly, but peacefully, at his Litchfield, NH home on February 11, 2012.

Born September 7, 1940 in Lawrence, MA, Richard was a proud graduate of the Central Catholic High School, Class of 1958. (He delighted in receiving his Golden Diploma at his 50th reunion several years ago.) He grew up in Lawrence, met and married his wife, Kay there, and worked at Greico Bros in Lawrence for the entirety of his career. In 1984, he moved with his family to Salem, NH, and later to Litchfield, NH after his retirement.

Mrs. Jane E. (Turner) Cole, 77, of Atkinson, NH, died peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Catherine (Leatham) Turner. Raised in Richmond, VA, she attended Richmond Business College. She worked as a Secretary at the University of Maine and was the longtime Administrative Assistant to the Atkinson Board of Selectman until her retirement in 1991. She was the correspondent for the Town of Atkinson, first for the Haverhill Gazette and later for the Plaistow News. She also was the author of a weekly column for the Eagle Tribune entitled “The Coal Bin” and author of the book, “Atkinson, Then and Now”.

William J. McNamara, 79, of Lawrence, MA, passed away on February 9, 2012 at his home, following a brief illness.

Bill was born in Lawrence. He attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Central Catholic High School. After High School, Bill joined the Marist Brothers in New York where he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Marist College, eventually obtaining his Master’s Degree in Education from Fordham University. Bill taught at several Marist Brother’s Schools throughout New York and then at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence. He worked for over 25 years at Chelmsford High School where he retired as Senior Guidance Counselor in 1992.

Alice C. (Cooney) Hunt, 68

Alice C. (Cooney) Hunt, 68, having succumbed to lung cancer after a short but fierce battle with the disease, passed away in her home in Windham, NH on Feb. 4th. Peter Joseph and Molly Cooney blessed the Town of Arlington, MA with Alice on May 26, 1943, where she grew up with her sisters Margaret and Mary. It only took a few months for Tim and Alice to fall in love, and in September of 1971, they married, moving a few years later from Malden, MA to Windham, NH. Alice was a fixture at the Windham Town Hall, making immediate friends with all of her coworkers and customers, providing a charm that was all her own.

Adrianne S. Fiore, 40 of Tiverton, RI, passed away on Monday, Feb 6th, 2012 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She was the wife of John J. Fiore. Born in Atkinson, NH, she was the daughter of (former Eagle-Tribune reporter) Lois-Mae (Hicks) and Vincent Marchand. She is a graduate of Timberlane Regional HS and received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Bradford College. A Direct Care Worker, she was employed by the Commonwealth of Mass., with the Dept. of Mental Retardation. She was co-owner with her husband of Fiore's Bar & Grill in Fall River, MA. She was a communicant of Holy Ghost Parish where she also taught CCD. She is also survived by her sons Vincent John Fiore and Nicholas James Fiore. In addition, she leaves a brother Andrew Marchand of Manchester, NH, a sister Amy Marchand Collins of East Providence, RI, along with several nieces and nephews.
