Dr. Muto was born in Avellino, Italy in 1927. He attended the Lyceum at Orvieto, the University of Naples and graduated from the University of Bologna School of Medicine. He came to Boston and completed a residency in general surgery at the Mt. Auburn Hospital and specialty training in Thoracic Surgery at the Overholt Clinic. He married Phyllis Tirone and settled in the Merrimack Valley where he went into private practice.

Betsy was employed as a Home Health Aid, most recently working with hospice patients. She was an avid gardener and animal lover and loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots. Betsy was a loving and devoted wife and mother. -

He was a graduate of the Methuen public schools and had resided in Lawrence for many years before moving to Ormond Beach, Florida in 1994. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 8, 1968 and served in Germany and Czechoslovakia before being honorably discharged on December 8, 1969. -

Ralph C. Simonds III, 69
Ralph C. “Buddy” Simonds III, died Friday, February, 10, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill after years of coping with lung disease. Born in Haverhill, he was raised in Groveland, the son of the late, Ralph C. Simonds Jr, and Agnes M. (Kennedy). He attended public school and was a Graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1960. Buddy began his career as a machinist with United Shoe Machinery in Beverly. He joined the Groveland Fire Department as a volunteer and later became full time with the Haverhill Fire Department on July 4, 1971. He would spend the next twenty-four years, serving the citizens of Haverhill, retiring as Lieutenant in 1995. As most fireman, Buddy had a second career as a paint and wallpaper contractor. Active in the A.A. program, he was proud to be a friend of Bill W. for thirty-one years. For recreation Buddy enjoyed golfing, he had a great sense of humor, and loved spending time with his family. He leaves his beloved wife, Kathleen M. (Bryant) Simonds, of Atkinson, NH, two sons, Brian M. Simonds, of Groveland, and Shawn P. Simonds, of Haverhill, two daughters, Lynn Quintiliani, of Haverhill, and Kim Johnston, of Haverhill, three step daughters, Stacey L. Henry and her husband, David, of Methuen, Bridgette M. Stewart, of Plaistow, and Lisa M. Stewart, of Derry, 14 grandchildren, Keith Ciaburri, Cole, Brooke, and Austin Simonds, Adriana and Anthony Quintiliani, Courtney Johnston, Gavin and Luke Henry, Alexis, Hunter, Sabrina, Christian, and Izayah Stewart, two brothers Michael E. and his wife, Kathryn (Brent) Simonds, of Haverhill, Peter Simonds, and his wife Debbie, of Sandown, four sisters, Bette A. Gorski, of Groveland, Michelle Pankauski, of Salisbury, Patricia J., and Colleen A. Simonds, both of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Edward Robert “Bobby” Simonds, and brothers in law, Barry Gorski, and Bruce Pankauski, and sister in law, Jean (Brindle) Simonds.

After High School, Bill joined the Marist Brothers in New York where he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Marist College, eventually obtaining his Master’s Degree in Education from Fordham University. Bill taught at several Marist Brother’s Schools throughout New York and then at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence. He worked for over 25 years at Chelmsford High School where he retired as Senior Guidance Counselor in 1992. -

Alice C. (Cooney) Hunt, 68, having succumbed to lung cancer after a short but fierce battle with the disease, passed away in her home in Windham, NH on Feb. 4th. Peter Joseph and Molly Cooney blessed the Town of Arlington, MA with Alice on May 26, 1943, where she grew up with her sisters Margaret and Mary. It only took a few months for Tim and Alice to fall in love, and in September of 1971, they married, moving a few years later from Malden, MA to Windham, NH. Alice was a fixture at the Windham Town Hall, making immediate friends with all of her coworkers and customers, providing a charm that was all her own.
