Lawrence — Alan M. Schwartz, 57, of Lawrence died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, June 11.
He was born in Lawrence, April 8, 1956, son of Inez (Davidson) Schwartz of Lawrence and the late William Schwartz. Educated in the Lawrence school system, Alan graduated from Northfield Mount Herman School, Gill, Mass. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Albion College, Michigan, his Master’s Degree in Library and Archival Science from the University of Michigan, and his Master’s Degree in American History from Harvard.
Alan worked for 27 years at the Boston Housing Authority as Records Maintenance Coordinator. In this role, he worked with every department at the Authority and participated in an agency-wide recycling effort. He served in the Navy Reserves and volunteered at Massachusetts General Hospital and at the Methuen Animal Care and Adoption Center at Nevins Farm. He passionately pursued his interests in history, book collecting, and ship model building. He loved all aspects of farming, and cultivated acres of common and exotic vegetables, tons of which he sold to schools and donated to shelters. He also raised bees, made cheese, and tapped maple trees for maple syrup.
Besides his mother, his survivors include a sister, Elinor Schwartz, and her husband, Bruce Labitt, of Nashua, N.H.; two beloved nieces, Rachael and Alyssa Labitt; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Sunday afternoon, June 16, at 12:30 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 So.
