Lawrence — Paul V. Meli, Sr., 84, of Lawrence died Monday June 17, surrounded by his loving family at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. Paul was born in Lawrence and was the son of the late Vincenzo and Vincenzina (Monastra) Meli. Paul was educated in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1946.
He enlisted in the Navy after graduation and served two years on the USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin. After the Korean War broke out, Paul reenlisted in the U.S. Army. He served 19 months in Korea and was discharged in 1953 as a Staff Sergeant with the Military Police.
When he returned from the war, he started working in the family business, V. Meli & Son Mason & Contractors and ran that business for 25 years. He later was appointed the Clerk of Works with the City of Lawrence, overseeing many renovations for the city, continuing in this position for 19 years before retiring in 1998.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Antonia (Dadducci) Meli of Lawrence; his sons, Vincent Meli of Lawrence and Paul V. Meli Jr. and his wife, Linda of Methuen; his daughter, Gina Boisvert and her husband, Kenneth of Salem, N.H. He is also leaves five loving grandchildren, Michael Tiberio and his fiancée, Heather Walker and her son, Tony, Kristina Meli, Jennifer Meli, Amanda Meli, and Paul V. Meli III; and his one great-grandchild Alex Tiberio; and several nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his brother, Anthony Meli.
ARRANGEMENTS: At Paul’s request, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for his Funeral Mass on Thursday, June 20, at 11 a.m., in St. Lucy’s Church, 245 Merrimack St., Methuen, Mass. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.
