Andover — Francis Joseph Flanigan, Jr., 80, of Andover, passed away April 17, 2013, at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Francis was born in Rhode Island, son of the late Francis J. Sr and Alice (Webber) Flanigan. He graduated from Cranston High School in 1951 and was the class vice president. He attended Dean Academy in Franklin, Mass., and later served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1961. After getting out of the Navy, Frank, worked as a purchase manager for 35 years at Limbach Company until his retirement in 1997.
After his retirement, Francis loved his time as a volunteer at the Massachusetts Golf Association, especially when he was the tournament coordinator from 1997 to 2005, and also helping with the Andover Youth soccer, football and baseball programs. He was also a part-time starter and ranger at Indian Ridge Country Club from 2005 until 2012.
Francis is survived by his wife, Edith (Wilkinson) Flanigan of Andover; children, Sean K. Flanigan of Andover, Ryan J. Flanigan and wife, Amanda, of Hollis, N.H., and Laura P. Flanigan of Medford, Mass.; as well as grandchildren, Owen Francis Flanigan and Jonah Sidney Flanigan. He was predeceased by his sister, Hope Powers.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church in North Andover. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
