Lawrence, MA — Dorothy Jean Burns, 66, passed away Thursday, April 18, at the Lawrence General Hospital.
Dorothy was born on January 10, 1947, in Methuen, Mass., and attended both Methuen and Lawrence schools before graduating from Lawrence High in 1964. She would later go on to receive her associate’s degree from Hesser College.
Dorothy was a career office worker, her last employment being at Auto Use in Andover, Mass. She spoke fondly of her management team and coworkers. Dorothy was a former member of the Rainbow Girls, as well as a former member of the Order of the Easter Star.
Dorothy was the daughter of the late Earl F. Burns. Family members include her mother, Adelaide (Hilderbrand) Burns of Lawrence; siblings, Edward Burns of San Francisco, Calif., Richard and his wife, Susan Burns, of Haverhill, Mass., Robert Burns and Wendy Voss of Davie, Fla., Andrew and his wife, Karen Burns, of Haverhill, Mass., David and his wife, Marsha Burns, of Vancouver, Wash., Katherine Burns of Fitchburg, Mass., Kory Betz of Methuen, Mass., Daniel Burns of San Francisco, Calif., Kreg and his wife, Jill Burns, of Hampton, N.H., James Burns and Christina Barrieau of Lawrence, Mass., and Christine and her husband, David Munoz, of Haverhill, Mass. Dorothy is also survived by her two step-children, Ronald and Roderick Funiestes of San Diego, Calif., as well as four step-grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and loved ones are invited to call on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery on Monday, April 29, at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Susan G. Komen Fund.
