Muriel Heroux RN

Chelmsford, MA — Mrs. Muriel Marjorie (Gagnon) Heroux, RN, a lifelong resident of North Chelmsford, Mass., and a WWII Army veteran, died Friday, June 28, at Lowell General Hospital.

She was married to the late Mr. Frances E. Heroux, who died October 19, 2007.

Born in Lowell, Mass., on December 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Margaret (Conley) Gagnon. She was a graduate of the Notre Dame Academy, Class of 1937, and earned her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1939.

Muriel served with the U.S. Army during WWII as a nurse, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant, and was honorably discharged in 1942.

She was a maternity nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lowell, but most recently she was the head nurse in the Chelmsford Public Schools, until her retirement in 1982.

Mrs. Heroux was a faithful communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in North Chelmsford. She was a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.

She enjoyed reading and sampling sweet chocolates, and she was most happy spending quality time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, David Heroux and his wife, Virginia of North Chelmsford, Robert Heroux and his companion, Marybeth Dorrance both of Nashua, N.H.; two daughters, Donna Degnan and her husband, James of Methuen, Mary Jo Al-Tukhaim of West Townsend; three sisters-in-law, Nancy, Martha and Mary Gagnon all of Chelmsford; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and close family friends.

Muriel was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, George, Donald, Kevin, and Gary Gagnon all of Chelmsford.

ARRANGEMENTS: No Visiting hours will be held. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at 8 a.m., from the Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex St., Chelmsford, Mass., with a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m., at St. John’s Church, North Chelmsford. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery in Westford. Memorials may be made in her name to the Jeffry Heroux Scholarship Fund.
