John G. Wallack, 85

Haverhill — Mr. John G. Wallack, 85, died October 3, at Merrimack Valley Hospital. Born in Lawrence to John and Adaline (Maycor) Wallack, he was a proud Lawrencian. Mr. Wallack was educated at Holy Trinity grammar school and Lawrence High school. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. Most notably, he fought in the battle on Iwo Jima. After the war he joined the Merchant Marines where he served for 20 years. Mr. Wallack attended Holy Trinity Church, enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal, loved to travel, and enjoyed life. Mr. Wallack was predeceased by his sisters, Laura Wallack and Eleanore Smeester. He is survived by one nephew Macel Smeester of South Carolina.
