Boghos S (Paul) Tavitian, 80

Plaistow, NH. — Boghos S (Paul) Tavitian, 80, a 50 year resident of Plaistow, NH, died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the Lawrence General Hospital.

Born in Haverhill, February 12, 1932, son of the late Sarkis and Zarouhi (Hagopian) Tavitian, Paul grew up in the Wood School neighborhood of Bradford, MA. He graduated from Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1951 and worked at the Dainty Maid Shoe Factory until enlisting in the US Air Force in December of 1951 and served four years, being discharged with the rank of Sergeant in February, 1955.

Boghos, also known as Bogie (which was derived from childhood friends referring to him as Holy Bogie) was an Industrial Electrician and employed at the Haverhill Paperboard Company for 30 years, serving on their Credit Union Board of Directors. He was actively involved in the Bicentennial Committee in 1976 for the City of Haverhill. He started his employment at the Lawrence General Hospital in l986 until his retirement in l993.

Boghos served his church, St. Gregory The Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church of Haverhill as an Acolyte at age 9 and at age 14 became a member of the Church Choir and continued as an active member throughout the rest of his life. He was an active member of the ACYO (Armenian Church Youth Organization) and Mr. & Mrs. Club. He served on the Parish Council for many years and as a Diocesan Delegate for 16 years and continues his membership in the Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Pointe. He was initiated as a member of the Knights of Vartan receiving his Third Degree in March, 1960 and had continued his membership serving as Commander and Grand District Representative and heading several committees throughout his membership.

Paul and his wife Sylvia were married for 53 years and lived in their home which he and family members built 50 years ago raising their three wonderful children. His favorite past time in earlier years was a small fruit orchard he developed and growing vegetables and fruit for his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and an all around Mr. Fix-it. He enjoyed music singing solos at church and played several instruments.

Paul is survived, and will be greatly missed, by his wife Sylvia of Plaistow, NH, son David Paul and wife Diane (Betz) Tavitian of Hampton, NH; daughter Debra and husband John Megrdichian of Cranston, RI, son Daniel Paul Tavitian of Manchester, NH; sister A. Virginia Tavitian of Bradford; brother Joseph and Brenda Tavitian of Bradford, MA; grandchildren Melissa and Peter Megrdichian of Cranston, RI; Dillon Tavitian of Hampton, NH. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and closely related family and friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Tuesday, October 9, 2012, from 4:00 – 8:00PM in St. Gregory The Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church 110 Main Street. Haverhill, MA, Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 11:00 AM. at the Church. Interment will follow in the Plaistow, NH Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the H. L.
