Stevenson, Wash. — Howard E. Houston, 87, of Stevenson, Wash. died October 25, 2012 at his home. He was born October 17, 1925 in Haverhill to Leon R. Houston and Lizzie Carleton Houston.
He graduated from Haverhill High School in 1943, president of his class. He left Haverhill early in 1943 to serve in the Air Force until 1946. He attended college at Harvard University where he played football and earned a BA in political science and a law degree, graduating in 1952. He worked in labor relations for retail companies in Washington, California, Oregon, Minnesota, Florida and Arizona.
He married Marguerite Baldwin Houston in 1948, they had three daughters and a son. They later divorced. He married Irma Irene Doble in 1986. They raised four sons and a daughter together.
After retirement he and his wife Irma enjoyed traveling in their RV. In 1987 they moved to Stevenson where he volunteered with SCORE and the local Economic Development Commission.
His interests were the wilderness, gardening, his family and volunteering. He loved long drives and hikes exploring the areas he lived in.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Doble Houston of Stevenson, Wash.; brother, L. Carleton Houston of Haverhill; sister, Arolyn Rowe (Dick) of Spokane, Wash.; daughters, Holly Dubrasich and her husband, Mike of Lebanon, Ore., Heather Houston and her husband Peter, Honey O'Connor and her husband Mike all of Portland, Ore. and Roberta Bragan of Gorham, Maine; sons, Dennis Houston of Stevenson, Wash., Daniel Doble and his wife Wendy of Irvine, Calif and David Doble and his wife Jen of Happy Valley, Ore., 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sons, Hunter Houston and Richard Doble and ex-wife, Marguerite Houston.

A graveside service was held on November 2, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.
