Haverhill — James F. Whitton, Jr., 92, of Haverhill, died Monday, November 19, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and following a long illness.
Born in Reading, the son of the late James and Agnes Whitton, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant. He was a recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal and retired after twenty years of service. He was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Andover for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Amvets Post 147, Haverhill and the VFW Post #29, Haverhill. Mr. Whitton was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the Federation of Fly Fisherman and Trout Unlimited. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader.
The husband of Thelma (Arahovites) (Daigneault) (Case) Whitton, he is also survived by a son, Robert Whitton and his wife, Roberta of Wyoming; two daughters, Donna Morse and her husband, Paul of Andover and Judy Easley and her husband, Charles of Derry, N.H.; a brother-in-law, John Arahovites and his wife, Janet of Haverhill; step-daughter, Carol Vekos and her husband, Arthur of Haverhill; daughter-in-law, Jackie Daigneault of Goffstown, N.H.; four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Whitton; sister-in-law, Pauline Arahovites; and step-son, Alan Daigneault.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 5 – 8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 26, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
