Alfred R. Grosse, 87

Methuen — Alfred “Fred” Grosse, 87, of Methuen passed away peacefully Wednesday at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill following a brief illness. Fred was born in Lawrence son of the late Peter and Jennie (Iannalfo) Grosse. He was educated in Methuen Schools and after school he joined the U.S. Army where he served with honor during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received during his tour of duty.

Fred worked for Western Electric for 20 years. There aren’t enough words to describe how much Fred was loved and adored by all who knew him. His family always came first, and he was always the “go to” guy for any problem. He was a man of many talents; an army hero, a builder, a mechanic, an electrician, a plumber all wrapped up in one perfect package. Fred and his wife retired in 1982 and enjoyed many years of traveling. He especially enjoyed spending summers with his grandchildren at his lake house in Maine.

Though we were blessed to have Fred for 87 years, we lost our hero and will miss him forever.

Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary (Psaros) Grosse of Methuen; sons, Peter Grosse and his wife, Deborah of Atkinson, N.H., David Grosse and his partner, Patricia Mangan of Bedford, N.H. and his daughter Gayle Law and her husband, David of Pelham, N.H.; he also leaves six loving grandchildren, Jeffrey Grosse, Christopher Grosse, Michael Grosse, Matthew Law, Katie Grosse, & Amanda Law. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Olga Grossi and a brother-in-law, Pat Franciosa both of Methuen, and several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his brother, Phillip Grossi and a sister, Rose Franciosa.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his visiting hours Saturday, December 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
