Alfio "Fred" Fichera

Lawrence — Alfio “Fred" Fichera, 91, a resident of Lawrence, died on July 1, 2013, at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center. He was a former Lawrence High School graduate, and had attended Wentworth Institute in Boston.

He was born on November 9, 1921, in Lawrence to Luigi and Giuseppina (Contarino) Fichera. Married to his loving wife, Mary (Somma) Fichera for 65 years, he leaves a son, Stephen Fichera and his wife, Deborah, both formerly of Lawrence; a daughter, Janet M. Fichera of Methuen; a brother, Peter Fichera of Connecticut; a sister, Nancy Consoli of Lawrence; a brother-in-law, Dante Somma; a sister-in-law, Edna Somma, both of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.

Fred was very fond of gardening and animals, especially his beloved dog, Charlie Brown. He also was a talented craftsman in which he enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, wood carving and small tabletop masonry structures. He was a meticulous pattern-maker in the clothing industry for forty years. He was a devoted and generous husband and father.

ARRANGEMENTS: A visitation will be held on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, Mass., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow.
