Methuen — William J. Toomey, 101, a lifelong resident of Methuen, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at home in Methuen, Mass., with his loving family by his side.
Born and educated in Methuen, he was the son of Edward J. and Mary T. (Grogan) Toomey (Twomey). He attended Essex Agricultural School in Danvers, Mass., and worked all his life as a dairy farmer until his retirement.
He was the former President of the Methuen Board of Trade and financial secretary. He was also the former chairman of the Methuen Christmas tree lighting program. William enjoyed caring for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his family.
The widower of Rita (Howard) Toomey, he is survived by his four sons, William P. and his wife, Shirley, of Methuen, Mass., Raymond and his wife, Diane, also of Methuen, Mass., John and his wife, Patricia, of Salem, N.H., and Michael and his wife, Stacy, of Newfield, Maine; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
