Methuen — Sr. Therese Benoit, 88, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary in Methuen, Mass.
Born in Burlington, Vt., on February 15, 1926, she was the daughter of Victor and Elydia (Lavigne) Benoit Sr. Therese was educated in Burlington at St. Anthony's School, and received her college education from Rivier College in Nashua, N.H.
Sr. Therese entered the Sisters of the Presentation on August 25, 1942, in Hudson, N.H., and professed her vows on February 2, 1945, taking her religious name, Sr. St. Marie Victor. She taught in parish schools for 31 years in Maine and Massachusetts. She cared for her sick mother for 9 1/2 years, before coming to Methuen in 1996.
She was predeceased by her three brothers, Gerard, Marcel and Paul. She is survived by two nephews, Douglas of New Mexico, and Michael of Connecticut.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary, 209 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, at 2:30 p.m., in the Chapel of the Presentation of Mary, with burial in the Presentation of Mary Cemetery, Methuen.
