Georgetown — William W. Greene Jr., 86, of Georgetown, died Sunday, March 17,2013, at Amesbury Village. William was born in Lowell on April 17,1926 to the late, William and Gertrude (Sherlock) Greene Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp having served in World War II. William was a past fire chief with the Georgetown Fire Department having served from 1968-1969 and served on the department from 1947-1978. He was also a volunteer fire fighter with Erie 4 Fire Company in Georgetown, as well as, serving on it's board of fire engineers. He was also employed as a plant steam engineer at General Electric until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Chadwick)Greene of Georgetown; and his two sons, William W.Greene lll of Sandown N.H. and Timothy Greene of Georgetown.
Also among his survivors are his sister, Louise Derbyshire of Tyngsboro; his three grandchildren, Arian Haley of Rowley, William Greene and Shawn Greene both of Georgetown. William is also survived by his five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Merton E.Robert Jr. and Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Family and friends may call Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
