Rose M. Scuderi, MD, 84


Lawrence, MA — Rose M. Scuderi, MD, 84, of Lawrence passed away on Sunday April 28, 2013, at the Warde Health Center in Windham, N.H., where she resided and was cared for since 2008. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Angelina (Fichera) Scuderi.

Rose was born April 25, 1929, in Lawrence, Mass., where she attended St. Mary’s School. She graduated cum laude from Emmanuel College in 1950 where she earned her bachelor of arts degree. Rose went on to Georgetown University and earned her doctorate in medicine in 1957 and completed her Internship and Residency at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1957-1959. She became the senior assistant resident physician at Boston Floating Hospital for Infants & Children from 1959-1960. She received her National Board of Medical Examiners and her Board of Registration in Medicine in 1959 and became a member of the Mass. Medical Society and the American Board of Pediatrics in 1962. Rose opened her own practice in Lawrence in 1960 where she cared for thousands of patients throughout the Merrimack Valley and was associated with the Lawrence General Hospital. She was truly dedicated to her practice and her patients. Rose made countless house calls any time, day or night, even sitting by the bedside of her patients. She retired in 1989 and focused on the care of her mother.

Rose loved travelling with her mother, gardening, birds, classical music and operas. Her knowledge was profound in any subject, which she loved to share and pass on to anyone engaged in conversation with her. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Lawrence, Mass.

Rose is predeceased by her brother Peter P. Scuderi. She is survived by her nephew, Peter J. Scuderi and his wife, Elena (Hasapis); and their two sons, Joseph and James of Salem, N.H., her niece, Jennifer (Scuderi) Yarid and her two daughters, Rachel and Anastasia of Methuen; cousins, Rose (Cicciarella) and her husband, Nick Catalano; Grace Torrisi Hamilton; Alfred Torrisi and his wife, Arlene; Joe Torrisi and his wife Barbara and their families. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Monday May 6, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Arthur J. Scott Funeral Home, 298 S. Broadway, Lawrence. A requiem funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, May 7 at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence. Burial will be in St. Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
